Automated Precision is a world leader providing advanced metrology solutions. Founded by Dr. Kam Lau in 1987, API has pioneered progressively higher standards of accuracy for both stationary and portable coordinate measuring equipment and machine tools. API products are installed and used by all of the worlds leading automotive, aerospace, machine tool, and CMM manufacturers. APIs experienced engineering team is unmatched in its ability to create advanced innovative products which meet the needs of rapid evolving industrial applications.

Hardware, Software, Training and Service

API is dedicated to providing solutions to the precision measurement and sensing challenges encountered in a manufacturing environment. API provides these solutions hardware, software, training and service with a professional, customer responsive approach, which is innovative, practical and cost effective. API is continuously engaged in research and development related to advanced sensor and error correction concepts. API is an active member of, and a key technology partner in several federal and industry sponsored programs for the advancement of various manufacturing initiatives. API is located in Rockville, Maryland within 15 minutes of The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).

Metrology Instruments

API has pioneered the development of many advanced measuring and sensing systems. Included are the companys high precision 2D and 3D digital scanning and probe systems, as well as an articulated CMM probing wrist. APIs open architecture CMM controller provides a standard hardware and software sensor interface and uses a standard interface protocol which was jointly developed with NIST, Ford, GM and Pratt & Whitney.

APIs innovative patented, 5/6D Laser interferometer systems simultaneously measure linearity, straightness, and flatness as well as pitch, yaw and roll. Use of the 5/6D systems reduces the time required for machine tool or CMM alignment from several days to 3 hours. API also produces advanced spindle analysis systems, and complete thermal and geometric error mapping (VEC) systems for real-time compensation of CMM or CNC machines.

Laser Trackers

API invented the laser tracking interferometer and holds the basic patent on tracker technology. In 1989 API licensed its tracker technology to Leica and aided in the development of the first commercial trackers. To date, hundreds of Leica Trackers utilizing API technology have been sold worldwide. APIs second generation Tracker II improves on the technology by reducing size and weight, while the third generation Tracker IIPLUS! provides even further size and weight reduction along with Absolute Distance Measurement (ADM) and SmartTRAK intelligent remote sensor technology.
